Betsy is a lifelong resident of Lacon, Marshall County, Illinois. Her parents, grandparents and great-grandparents were all residents of Marshall County. She graduated from Mid-County High School (now Midland) then attended Bradley University, Peoria Illinois where she received her Bachelors’ of Arts Degree. She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Western Michigan University, Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Lansing Michigan.

After graduating from law school she returned to Marshall County as an Associate of Mr. Robert A. “Packy” Barnes and his son Robert A. Barnes, Jr. at Barnes & Barnes Law Office, Lacon Illinois. The Barnes practice was founded in 1864. Betsy was honored to be the first non-family member and first woman to be asked to join the firm in its history. When Robert A. Barnes, Jr. was appointed to the bench in 1987 Betsy acquired the practice and the firm was renamed Barnes & Beck. Betsy became the sole attorney at the firm in 1993 upon the passing of Packy Barnes.

When Betsy is not in the office, she enjoys visiting her 3 granddaughters, gardening, and duck hunting. Betsy is very active in her community and gives of her time to several local organizations. She is an active member of the Lacon Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, where she serves on the Board of Trustees. Since 2013 Betsy has enjoyed being a mentor to a middle school student through the Kid’s Hope USA program sponsored through her church. Betsy is also a founding member of the Lacon Ladies Duck Unlimited Chapter, Lacon, Illinois and served on the committee for 19 years. Betsy supports several charities including the Marshall-Putnam St. Jude Run, Marshall County Relay For Life, Salvation Army, Midland Timberwolves sports, River Valley Falcons Football, the American Cancer Society and the Peoria Rescue Mission.

Along with practicing in Real Estate, Probate, Elder Law and Tax Preparation, Betsy also serves as attorney for the following governmental entities:

  • Lacon –Sparland Fire Protection District since 1987;
  • City of Lacon;
  • Wenona Fire Protection District;
  • Lostant Fire Protection District;
